I hide chocolate in the vegetable drawer of the fridge because I know my kids will never find it.

Idle No More

Four women who said
We are Idle No More
Awakened the whole world
Simply knocking on the door

We're very scared mothers
Childrens' lives are at stake
Canada will be poisoned
Every river, stream and lake

Come outside and see
Take a really long look
This beauty before you
Will be in a history book

There's no environment protection
The government took that away
It also broke Treaties
That weren't just for display

We're First Nation ladies
Proud of who we are
We forever stand united
Even when distanced from afar

We love our country
As probably you do yours
We are all indigenous
Connected water, shore to shores

The world's in danger
Our lands from here to there
Affects the global future
For our grandchildren to share

To all media people
Start reporting the harsh truth
Outside the lines, perhaps
A job for a real sleuth

To all Canadian people
We call you to lead
To all government officials
We will see you concede

Four women once said
We are Idle No More
Began a millions movement
Peacefully knocking at the door

Wildflower's Garden

The garden was planted
40 years or more
A blend of Canadian soil
Gave nourishment from the core

Seeds thrown and scattered
Spread with love and care
A garden of wild flowers
A job meant to share

Patiently tending their garden
Roots began to grow
Watching amazed and marvelled
Wild flowers began to show

Colours, fragrance and texture
A beauty to behold
A garden growing freely
Not dictated by landscape mould

A garden needs attention
Demanding two to care
Weeds can entangle early
Suffocating the wild flowers air

Flowers would still show
The season after next
Somehow losing their lustre
As from a witch’s hex

The garden suffered changes
Stomped on feet above
It could see sunshine
Just could not feel love

Winter Spring Summer Fall
The garden endured years
Instead of sun and rain
Survived with shadows and tears

One day rain pelted
Just like a knife
Storming day and night
Almost taking all the life

Eventually the rain subsided
Sun began to shine
The wild flowers knew
It was safe to climb

Budding from the ground
Peaking at the sky above
Wondering in the brilliance
They felt light and love

The garden now flourishes
Wildflowers continually grow
Gentle winds spread seeds
For the world to know
